Upon first glance they appear to be wet rounded stones. I too fear that the lack of water will become a great problem for future generations of humans and the animal kingdom alike. The variety of species here on earth is truly miraculous!
This can be a serious problem in these areas and I always feel so sorry for the animals. At least in places like Kruger they have put in boreholes to solve the problem as some of our rivers are almost completely dried up because of people upstream taking out the water for farming and industrial use.

WOW....what a site, but the lack of water is a sad situation indeed.
Hippos really have a problem in drought conditions!! Diane
It's sort of tip of iceberg. I am not certain how big they are...
Thanks for sharing.
What a terrific photograph! Have you ever seen so many hippos in one place?
I think (and I hope I'm wrong) that water will become more precious than oil or diamonds in the years ahead. And potable water, even more so.
Hippos are so cute! Such great timing. Nicely captured.
Hope you have a great start to your week!
Many thanks for visiting Norwich Daily Photo and leaving your comment. Come visit again tomorrow!

Looks like plenty of water to me. I'm glad big things like that are not lurking in our rivers.
