Love this photo. Never seen Penguins in the wild just at Chester Zoo. I have lived in Cheshire UK since the age of 2 but was born in South Africa. Thanks for showing me the birds I am missing.

I guess you don't think of Penguins as being in SA. Great group of them.

I wonder why they call that place "Boulder Beach"? ;-))

Lovely shot. What do you call a group of penguins like this: a herd? a covey? a clutch; a convention; oh, I know, the United States Congress! Heh, heh. That's not a very nice way to treat penguins -- I'm sure they are smarter than Congress!

How wonderful it must be to see these wonderful animals in the wilds and not in a zoo!! Terrific shot!

What a lovely mix! Elephants sea bathing and penguins looking on from the beach. Nice shot.

Wow!
Those are jackass penguins, right?
I watch a lot of animal documentaries!!! Ha!

They live so close to urban area.

Unknown said...

@London Caller: Yes, it's the Jackass, also called African Penguin.

How fascinating. I only expected to ever see penguins in ice and snow! I always enjoy visiting a local reservoir where in winter the tourists are gone and the place is overrun with ducks. Their clamour and activity are riveting and amusing. I'm sure watching penguins must be just as enchanting!

Man I love your blog! It is just staggering the variety of great pictures you take. I am wondering how the Jackass penguin got it's name? I'll bet that's an interesting story.

Thanks for answering my question about the species. I recently saw an amazing program about the great African Penguin rescue after the break-up of an oil tanker near the coast in 2000.
